Iberian-American Film Festival
When: Nov 2008 (annual)
Where: Huelva
Cost: €3 or Ten-film pass €20
Opening Hours: Various

Huelva's Festival de Cine Iberoamericano has established itself as an important acid test of critical and public opinion for recent Iberian-American cinematic works. The event, divided into around 25 competitions across various venues, features some 120 feature-length films and 60 shorts from both sides of the Atlantic.

The festival's top award is the coveted Colón de Oro del Jurado. The winner receives a substantial amount of prize money and, of course, an excellent platform for the promotion of their work. Other top prizes include the Colón de Oro del Público as well as the Carabela de Plata for debut film-makers.

In 2007, the festival presents the prestigious Ciudad de Huelva award to Maribel Verdú, for outstanding contribution to Iberian-American cinema. With over 20 years in the industry, Verdú has worked with top filmmakers such as Eloy de la Iglesia, Fernando Trueba, Vincente Aranda and, more recently, with Mexican director Guillermo de Toro on Pan's Labyrinth.
